World Skate October Newsletter

World Skate October Newsletter

Hello once again from the tail-end of October, and welcome to our latest monthly recap of all things skateboarding-related in our shared world.
Now, it will come as no surprise to you that in this sandwich month between the end of a frankly phenomenal year for us all and the turning of our shared attentions to the coming events of 2025 that most of our news from the past 30 days is of the infrastructural development variety.
Two huge bits of progress in that field which both became public in October took the form of the foregrounding of entry-level initiatives in the worlds of both skateboard judging and coaching.
In the first instance, we were able to announce that our International Skateboard Judging Certification opened registration for National Federations to have their domestic judges accredited.
So begins the path of not only raising up a new era of judges but also the opening of pathways for those judges to oversee ever-bigger contests as we move forward into this vastly bigger post- Paris moment.
As we have alluded to over the summer, the unquestionable global success of skateboarding in the Paris Olympic Games has been a watershed moment and as a result, the international skateboard contest landscape is going to look very different between now and LA 28.
Now is a great time to become part of the World Skate community as a skater, judge or coach.
Staying with coaches, the other great building block of our development for the future announced in October comes in the form of our Coach Education and Accreditation System.
The system is aimed at driving up best practice and coaching standards across skateboarding which will allow talented coaches scope to transfer their skills while ensuring coaches from emerging nations can have their expert knowledge and skill sets monitored and developed.
Lithuania officially became the first country to host a CEAS program a little earlier this month, but any National Federation (NF) interested in hosting a Level 1 course in 2025 is invited to get in touch with us from now.
Underpinning both initiatives are our ongoing Judging Recaps and Performance Ledgers, which break down previous events to offer insights into the scoring rationale behind individual performances for the benefit of participants and aspiring judges alike.
Before signing off we should also shout out Skateboard GB who are mid-way through their two-leg National Championships at this very moment.
Their Park Championship event in Scotland this month saw Glasgow’s excellent Loading Bay skatepark crown WST friends George O’Neill and Lola Tambling as 2024’s rulers respectively.
If you are a National Federation who would like to big up your events, drop us a line on skateboarding@worldskate.org to see how we can support you- that’s what we are here for.
Until then, see you again at the end of November!
