2024 XTERRA World Cup Stop #6 Preview: European Champs in Czech

PRACHATICE, CZECH REPUBLIC
The 2024 XTERRA European Championship on August 10, also Stop #6 of the XTERRA World Cup Series, takes place in historic Prachatice.
This pivotal event in XTERRA’s history features a Full Distance Race along tank panel roads from the 1960s and forested Golden Salt Path trails, culminating in a dramatic town square finish.
The layout, one of the year’s toughest, draws large crowds, maintaining a 21-year tradition.
With an Elite Prize Purse of €30,000 and 58 slots for the XTERRA World Championship in Italy, intense competition is expected as athletes vie for top honors in this challenging race weekend.
The event also brings back the made-for-TV Short Track Race airing live on August 11.

The Full Distance Race starts with a 1.5K swim at Ktišský Lake, followed by a 33K mountain bike ride from steep forest ascents to a descent into the town of Prachatice, and concludes with a 10.5K run through narrow cobblestone paths and wooded trails, finishing at the Statue of Justice in Prachatice’s Great Square, where the XTERRA European Champions will be crowned.

Men’s Race Preview
Jens Emil Sloth Nielsen (DNK) is tightly positioned among XTERRA’s elite, with Felix Forissier (FRA) leading him by 44 points in the World Cup standings and Arthur Forissier (FRA) also in close contention.
Maxim Chané (FRA) and Arthur Serrières (FRA) round out the top five.
Sloth Nielsen, bolstered by altitude training in the French Alps, is poised to challenge this French dominance by leveraging his improved bike and run performances.
The course’s demanding bike segments, characterized by long, challenging climbs, play to his strengths.
Meanwhile, Felix Forissier aims to clinch the 2024 XTERRA World Cup title with potential victories in both the Full Distance and Short Track races, as Serrières, the two-time XTERRA World Champion, seeks to maintain his peak form heading into the season’s final stop.

Women’s Race Preview
Race week at XTERRA Czech buzzes with excitement as Italy’s Sandra Mairhofer returns, sets up for a pivotal clash with World Cup leader Solenne Billouin (FRA), with both athletes having secured a win against each other this season, making Prachatice the backdrop for a decisive battle for the XTERRA European Champion title.
Marta Mendito (ITA), currently second in the series, aims to cement her podium position amidst fierce competition from Alizée Paties (FRA) and Anna Zehnder (CHE), who are also vying for top placements.
Mairhofer is driven by a comeback spirit after a significant fall last year, while Paties returns to overcome a mechanical failure in Québec, and Billouin seeks a double win to extend her lead and focus on adding a third consecutive title at the XTERRA World Championship in Trentino, Italy next month.

Festival of Champions & Future Stars
From August 9-11, 2024, Prachatice not only hosts the XTERRA World Cup and European Championship, but marks a key point for the XTERRA Youth Tour en route to the XTERRA Youth World Championship next month.
The town square buzzes with festival vibes, showcasing local cuisine, live music, and aerial displays, alongside a mix of triathlon events for all levels.
Key races will determine if leaders like Solenne Billouin and Felix Forissier can hold their spots or face challenges from contenders like Jens Emil Sloth Nielsen and Marta Menditto.
The Elite Short Track race promises high-intensity action, streaming live on August 11 at 1pm local time, spotlighting top athletes to a global audience.
